I bring this up because my local news channel had an equally insipid news piece about a parade held yesterday to honor some Sgt. killed in Afghanistan.
They inflated the piece with endless interviews with parade attending local yokels who spouted the same annoying bullshit over and over and over.
"Freedom isn't free."

How, I wonder, did this yutz actually protect "our freedom?"

Afghanistan is a poverty ridden lump of rubble.
So how could the Taliban possibly infringe on "our freedom?"
The short answer:
They couldn't.
Ever.
I wonder why none of these red white & blue imbeciles can't find the brain cells to apply the same "free isn't free" logic to something useful like the concept of "free markets?"
They're not free either. They have costs. Quite huge, community ruining costs, that none of these flag waving dipshits ever seem to notice as they champion the utter joy of capitalist consumer cult-ure.

The 3,000 people that died in New York on September 11th had nothing to do with terrorism. The hundreds of thousands of Iraqi women and children that died due to the U.S. backed U.N. economic embargo had no involvement with terrorism. The Iraqi soldiers that have died had nothing to do with September 11th terrorism. The Middle Eastern prisoners in U.S. military prisons had nothing to do with September 11th terrorism. The U.S. soldiers that have died had nothing to do with terrorism.
It seems the point is that the world is safe from terrorism because of coalition forces in the Middle East. We are safe and secure and terrorists are being weeded out slowly but surely. If U.S. soldiers were not in the Middle East the world would not be safe. Security of the world is the bottom line along with the paychecks to fight over there.
September 11th terror masterminds are still alive. People having nothing to do with terrorism must die in order to lessen terrorism. Yep, U.S. military we are safe and secure alright. As long as you are a terrorist.
A US Army intelligence analyst was charged on Monday with eight violations of federal criminal law for leaking confidential military documents and videos, including a 2007 video of US attack helicopter brutally murdering civilians and journalists in Baghdad that was leaked to controversial whistleblower site Wikileaks.com.
Manning is also accused of abusing access to the government's Secret Internet Protocol Reuter network to obtain more than 150,000 US State Department cables, some of them classified, and passing 50 cables off to an unauthorized person, according to the charge sheet posted on Wired. The charges indicate that Manning leaked information in order to "discredit" the armed forces.
If convicted of all the charges, Manning could face around 50 years in prison. He is being held in Kuwait as the investigation continues.
Wired reported that Manning was allegedly turned in by former hacker Adrian Lamo. Manning allegedly told Lamo, whom he met online, that he was leaking classified documents via Wikileaks.
Manning also said he gave Wikileaks 260,000 secret files detailing US foreign policy, but Assange had denied his organization received them.
Manning also admitted to Lamo that he leaked to Wikileaks a video of the notorious May 2009 air strike near Garani village in Afghanistan, which the local government said killed nearly 100 civilians, most of them children, according to Wired. Wikileaks announced earlier this month that it would release the video. The Pentagon made headlines last year when it owned up to the killings.
According to Wired, Manning allegedly told Lamo that there is a scandal to be revealed in every US post across the world.
“Hillary Clinton and several thousand diplomats around the world are going to have a heart attack when they wake up one morning, and find an entire repository of classified foreign policy is available, in searchable format, to the public,” Manning told Lamo in an online chat session.
In March Wikileaks released a confidential report that revealed a US counterintelligence investigation into Wikileaks and a subsequent plan to undermine the project. The website also revealed that four Republicans in Congress recently asked Homeland Security how the government can take legal action against Wikileaks.

I think the US is also hunting for the chap who runs WikiLeaks. Evidently he got hold of some classified State Department e-mails that the US doesn't want published. I think he's on the run in Europe.
