The One Percent

I put these up for my own benefit, but if you haven't seen this, give it a spin.

Shrub, missed your last comment on the bomb animation post.

Marcellus shale will most definitely happen. The only protest I'm seeing around here is coming from land owners who are pissed that the fracking area is excluding their land from getting a good fracking. They see the $$$$$ involved & they all want a piece of the pie.

I've no doubt this will all end badly. & when it does folk will point to Gasland & talk about how prescient it was & they'll wonder why no one listened. But, by then, the damage will be done & all we'll be left with is the consequences of our own stupidity, ignorance & greed.

In other words, business as usual.

Thanks for posting this documentary. I just finished watching it. It was excellent.

I think Jamie, like the girl giving the graduation speech, is a bit naive. He did an excellent job of exposing the symptoms, but I think he's naive about the solution.

It's beyond reform this time around. The solution won't be pretty, if there is one.

Is it my imagination, or was the old man drunk, or drugged, as a skunk the majority of the time?

I have the luxury (sarcasm alert) of crossing paths with these people and they are every bit as shown in this video. Pink Floyd's Money is spot on, especially "it's no surprise that they're
giving none away."

Money, get away.
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay.
Money, it's a gas.
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team.

Money, get back.
I'm all right Jack keep your hands off of my stack.
Money, it's a hit.
Don't give me that do goody good bullshit.
I'm in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet.

Money, it's a crime.
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie.
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise that they're
giving none away.

While I liked the documentary, I've no illusions about the filmmaker.
He's a trust fund Socialist with a conscience. In 20 years, he'll be doing what daddy does.

But I doubt the access would have come without the pedigree.

I'll have to admit that I enjoyed the old man. I liked the way his shirt wasn't tucked in, and that glassy eyed inability to form a coherent thought was, as you like to say, priceless.

Warren "I live in a modest frame house & eschew cell phones" Buffet and his complete disowning of his granddaughter was odd, but inventing an adoption story for her as well was just downright pathological.

It's also nice to know that we pay 3 times the world price for sugar.
Making someone else filthy rich for no reason always makes the sun shine a little brighter, doesn't it Shrub?

Hey Richard, MB, Swan & Bel, I havn't been in the neighborhood for a bit, my Dad's rapidly deteriorated and is just skin & bone now, we're trying everything we can.. I cant get off this horrible ride, one I know you're familiar with Richard. I forgot to thank you for your sympathies some posts back, they were appreciated mate. The other day was the first time I ever saw my father in tears, he doesn't fckn deserve this.

BF, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Cancer is an awful malevolence. I've seen it affect and take many lives in my short 46 years. Hang in there....and know that you have our sympathies. By the way, what form of cancer does your father have, and what's his prognosis, if you don't mind me asking?

BF, nobody deserves it. I don't think "deserves" figures into the equation at all. Again BF, you have my sincerest sympathies. And don't take this the wrong way pal, but I hope, for your dad's sake, that it ends soon.

Thank you both, it seems cancer is everywhere over here, at least everywhere I seem to turn. MB, the tumor was discovered next to his kidney and was about the size of a grapefruit, which then shrunk and broke up (maybe due to his therapies) but then spread to muscular regions around his body just under the surface of his skin. His specialist has been quite perplexed at its action, as it hasn't spread to his lungs or any major organs other than a little involvement in one kidney, as of last scan. We'll continue to help and support him as long as he has the will to fight it, he's still talking and has light in his eyes...despite the pain. I won't give up on em til he's ready to throw in the towel.
Thanks again guys, I appreciate the sentiment. -bf
